Enric Fraile Algeciras, manager of the company Nadir Ingeniería Sistemas Móviles, showcases an unusual use of our structural tower TRC-700.
Enric, who has taken one of his passions to the next level, explains: “The tower elevates an antenna system and provides the convenience of working with it at ground level and then raising it.”
The tower, installed in Barcelona (Spain), supports a communication system for lunar bounce EME and Meteor Scatter. Through this setup, Enric communicates with other enthusiasts worldwide and researches astronomical phenomena, counting stars, fireballs, and detecting meteors, which has made him a reference in the field, pioneering these methods as he explains on his personal blog, ea3btz.
We took the opportunity to understand the use of this Ground Support tower made of trusses. The product manufactured by FENIX, the Ground Support Tower TRC-700, can bear up to 600kg at a height of up to 7m, and it features a safety system (FSH System) that secures the load.
Designed for easy installation by a single person, this FENIX product is used as an “antenna lifting tower” for telecommunications, making it an ideal companion for this function. As Enric explains, the industry currently relies on custom solutions (usually less affordable) or more rudimentary “fixes.”
“I have been involved in the world of amateur radio since 1976. I am part of associations like SOMYCE and IMO and have specialized in communications via ‘Meteor Scatter’ and Lunar Bounce ‘EME,’ which involves communicating with other enthusiasts by bouncing signals off the moon’s surface. I installed my first meteor radio observatory in 1997 and am collaborating with other associations to establish a National Research Network.
Antennas are always needed to carry out this activity, and solutions must be sought to elevate them. If you have significant purchasing power, you can request a custom structure, but those of us without such power have to look for something commercially available,” Enric shares.
